  • Welcome

Meyonohk school is nestled in the community of Lakewood within the greater community of Millwoods. The school opened in 1981.  Meyonohk translated from the Cree language means "a nice place to be."

Meyonohk is an elementary school that offers a regular English program and a Mandarin bilingual program.  Students in grades 4-6 regular English program receive French as a second language. We believe that our school provides an inviting, physically and psychologically safe environment in which to learn and work. It truly is a nice place to be!

We lease space to Morning Star Before and After School Care Program.

Principal's Message

Principal's Message border

Thank you for visiting Meyonohk School’s website.  It is my pleasure to welcome new and returning students and their families to Meyonohk.  I am proud and honored to be the principal of this fine learning community that has a strong reputation for excellence. At Meyonohk School we offer a regular English program and a Chinese bilingual program.   Our K – 6 environment fosters student leadership, mutual respect, modeling of excellent citizenship and acceptance of all students.  Meyonohk students demonstrate a responsible and cooperative attitude which is most evident in the manner they respond to the challenge of the high expectations we hold for their academics and behavior.

Along with a strong focus on academics, student learning is enriched through various clubs, special events (artists-in-residence, author visits, music and theatrical performances, field trips, etc.) and parent sponsored school-wide events.  Our school is also focused on “Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice” by promoting quality daily physical fitness activities and by supporting healthy eating.

A successful education is a shared responsibility between home and school.  Learners benefit from a dedicated and supportive team of teachers, support staff, custodial staff, students, parents/guardians and community members.  Our staff demonstrates a commitment to professional enhancement to support teaching and learning at Meyonohk.  Our goal is to provide appropriate and challenging learning opportunities to meet the needs of all students as 21st century learners.

If you would like to consider becoming a part of the Meyonohk School community, please give us the opportunity to impress you. Contact our school at 780.463.7627 to arrange a visit and a tour to see what Meyonohk has to offer.
